Teletext in Poland - Part I

Here comes the fourth article of my World of teletext series, covering Polish teletext this time, and containing 116 screens. This series contains screens from the following channels: TVP 1, TVP 2, TVP Kultura, TVP Polonia, TVP Rzeszow, TVP Sport, Polsat, and TV4. The format is a bit different this time, as a lot of Polish channels have online teletext portals, so I’m just publishing ....

International Teletext Art Festival on ARD

After being broadcasted on YLE last Spring, the International Teletext Art Festival returns and is currently live in Germany on ARD teletext (page 770), until September 16th. According to information communicated by ITAF staff, ARD (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is the second largest public mediahouse after the BBC, making it the largest teletext broadcaster as the BBC is phasing out Ceefax. You can see some captures below, and it’s interesting to notice that my picture got mangled somehow: is it a teletext emulator rendering bug?...

Teletext in Greece

Here is a very short collection of greek Teletext pictures I could sneak during my trip in Crete this July. I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality, as these screens were taken with a smartphone and thus without tripod (you can notice the vertical blanking signal artefact on some of the pictures). According to Wikipedia, the ongoing digital television transition in Greece will be completed sometime in 2013, so it means I was quite lucky to still be able to capture them....

International Teletext Art Festival

That’s it, the International Teletext Art Festival is finally live on YLE teletext pages (525-545), to celebrate the 30th anniversary of teletext in Finland. Once again, I would like to thank the ITAF team for organizing such a great event, and making this possible. The event will last until April 8th, so you will be able to browse all the submitted teletext screens on YLE Internet teletext gateway or on your TV set if you happen to live in Finland (Hi Seppo, Julien and all the Anttis I know!...

Drawing Teletext Art

I guess all text mode artists have been dreaming at least once about being employed as a teletext artistdrawing teletext art, and until very recently, I had no idea that one day I would be able to do so. So here is my first teletext picture ever, it was drawn in January 2012. More stuff will be posted next month, after the International Teletext Art Festival goes live on March 8th....

Teletext in Germany - Part I

Faster than expected, here comes the second article of my World of teletext series: it is dedicated to German teletext this time, and contain 110 screens and one video. Unfortunately, I have no idea about the actual state of teletext in Germany, as the country totally switched to digital television through a process completed in 2009. However, analog cable and satellite broadcasts will remain available until 2012, and this is actually how I’ve been able to capture these screens from France in June 2011: using an analog satellite decoder with antenna pointed to Astra (19....

Teletext in France

Here is the first article of my (hopefully prosperous!) World of teletext series! As a text mode lover, I’m very sad to see this service being shut down as we are going through digital television transition, and therefore, wanted to keep track of this important part of text mode art history. In my native country, France, analog television broadcasting is being gradually phased out: a process which started in February 2010 and will be going on through the end of November 2011....
